The Black Star is one of the Daedric Artifacts in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Daedric Artifacts are special, powerful items created by the Daedric Princes and given to mortals in exchange for their services or for completing favors. Each artifact is attributed to a specific Prince and is imbued with their power, providing unique combat and magical benefits to their users. Daedric Artifacts fall under three categories: Weapons, Apparel and Other Items. In order to obtain these artifacts, the Dragonborn must undertake special Daedric Quests and gain the favor of the associated Daedric Prince.

The Black Star is a Daedric Artifact attributed to Daedric Prince Azura.
It is a usable Item and in appearance, looks like a large, ornate piece of jewelry shaped like a star.
Unlike the bright coloration of Azura's Star, it features a dark blue/purple jewel shaped into an eight-pronged star, with dark grey metal platings partially wrapping around each prong as well as the center.

- The Black Star is a zero weight, reusable Black Soul Gem. Unlike regular soul gems, The Black Star is not consumed upon use.
- Despite Nelacar's description, The Black Star can host both Black Souls and White Souls, allowing you to trap the souls of animals, creatures and sentient beings alike.
- Highly valuable for Enchanters.
How to obtain the The Black Star Daedric Artifact in Skyrim
The Black Star can be obtained as follows:
- Complete the quest "The Black Star".
- Note that to receive this version of the star, you must bring the Broken Azura's Star to Nelacar and remove Malyn Varen's soul from it. Bringing the star to Aranea Ienith will instead award Azura's Star.
- It is not possible to obtain both version of the star legitimately in a single playthrough.
- You will lose the option of having Aranea Ienith as a Follow if you choose to obtain The Black Star.
