Dawnbreaker is one of the Daedric Artifacts in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Daedric Artifacts are special, powerful items created by the Daedric Princes and given to mortals in exchange for their services or for completing favors. Each artifact is attributed to a specific Prince and is imbued with their power, providing unique combat and magical benefits to their users. Daedric Artifacts fall under three categories: Weapons, Apparel and Other Items. In order to obtain these artifacts, the Dragonborn must undertake special Daedric Quests and gain the favor of the associated Daedric Prince.

Dawnbreaker is a Daedric Artifact attributed to Daedric Prince Meridia.
It is a One-Handed weapon of the Sword class. Aesthetically, it possesses a striking feature in the form of a glowing cross-guard, giving it a unique look which is particularly pronounced during nighttime or in dark dungeons and caves.
Dawnbreaker Daedric Artifact Effect Details in Skyrim
Dawnbreaker has the following special effect(s):
"Burns for 10 points, and when killing undead, a chance to cause a fiery explosion that turns or destroys nearby undead."
- Dawnbreaker deals 10 points of fire damage with every strike and can cause a fiery explosion when defeating Undead opponents. This effect is known as Meridia's Retribution and is reapplied with every hit, the debuff lasting for 10 seconds. If the target afflicted by the debuff is undead and is killed within those 10 seconds, it may explode, with the chance getting higher the more times the target is hit.
- Any other undead within the vicinity of the explosion will be set on fire and flee, similar to the effects of the Turn Undead skill. Note that this will also affect non-hostile undead incluing followers, except for Serana, despite her vampire status.
- The explosion can also affect you if you are playing as a Vampire, afflicting you with the Meridia's Retribution effect.
- The fire damage enchantment of this weapon can be enhanced with the Augmented Flames perk, as well as the Ahzidal's Mask headwear.

Dawnbreaker can be tempered by using an Ebony Ingot and the Arcane Blacksmith perk.
Note that it is not classified as an Ebony Weapon and therefore does not benefit from any Smithing perks. The weapon cannot be improved past Flawless quality without boosting your Smithing skill past 100.
