Each artifact is attributed to a specific Prince and is imbued with their power, providing unique combat and magical benefits to their users. In order to obtain these artifacts, the Dragonborn must undertake special Daedric Quests and gain the favor of the associated Daedric Prince.

Skyrim Ebony Mail Daedric Artifact Information

Ebony Mail is a Daedric Artifact attributed to Daedric Prince Boethiah.

It is a piece of Heavy Armor worn on the torso as a Cuirass.

Visually, the Ebony Mail is similar to Ebony Armor with some key differences such as the chainmail that lines the inner portion of the plates and makes up the entirety of the sleeves, as well as the absence of pauldrons.

The shadowy effect it gives off while the enchantment is active shrouds the wearer completely in a black, smoky silhouette. This visual effect is also seen on enemies afflicted with the poison effect.

It is also the lightest armor of its class with the highest defense-to-weight ratio.

Ebony Mail Daedric Artifact Effect Details in Skyrim

Ebony Mail has the following special effect(s):

"You are able to move more quietly, and opponents that get too close take 5 points poison damage per second."

  • The Ebony Mail's enchantment bestows the wearer with the Muffle effect while sneaking, eliminating all noise made by your armor and footsteps.
  • It also has a unique Poison damage effect that inflicts 5 points of damage to nearby opponents. This activates while sneaking or during combat. The enchantment shrouds the character in a shadowy, smoky visual effect, which may obscure vision in first person view.
  • The poison that emanates from the cuirass is considered an effect, rather than a poison, meaning it will affect every enemy, even those that have a natural immunity to poisons.
  • Note that when Brawling with the Ebony Mail on, it will poison your opponent, violating the rules of the brawl and causing guards and others to become hostile towards you.
