Absorbs the life essence of your foes, strengthened by the blood of deceit. |
Ebony Blade is one of the Daedric Artifacts in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Daedric Artifacts are special, powerful items created by the Daedric Princes and given to mortals in exchange for their services or for completing favors. Each artifact is attributed to a specific Prince and is imbued with their power, providing unique combat and magical benefits to their users. Daedric Artifacts fall under three categories: Weapons, Apparel and Other Items. In order to obtain these artifacts, the Dragonborn must undertake special Daedric Quests and gain the favor of the associated Daedric Prince.
Skyrim Ebony Blade Daedric Artifact Information
Ebony Blade is a Daedric Artifact attributed to Daedric Prince Mephala.
It is a Two-Handed weapon of the Greatsword class. Aesthetically, it bears a strong resemblance to the Japanese Katana or, more accurately, the Nodachi.
Despite being a Two-Handed Weapon, The Ebony Blade possesses an attack speed that is faster than any other two-handers and rivals that of a One-Handed Sword. However, its low damage output leaves it reliant on its special effects to maintain usefulness.
Ebony Blade Daedric Artifact Effect Details in Skyrim
Ebony Blade has the following special effect(s):
"Absorbs the life essence of your foes, strengthened by the blood of deceit."
- Ebony Blade has an enchantment that functions much like the Health" target="">Absorb Health enchantment, stealing a certain amount of Health with every strike.
- The effect starts off with a 10-point health absorption but can be enhanced to up to a 30-point health absorb. This can be accomplished by slaying friendly characters. Meridia will speak to you every time the blade is upgraded.
- For this purpose, friendly characters refer to those whose favors have been completed or those who have been won over during any type of quest. A good indicator for whether a character is friendly is their speech towards the Dragonborn, as well as if taking low-value items from their home is not considered stealing. Characters that you can sell various resources to via a dialogue option instead of the barter menu are also considered friendly. You may also drop weapons and armor for certain characters and acknowledge that they are free for the taking to make them friendly.
- The blade's absorption increases in power by 4 points for every two such characters killed.
- Unlike most enchantments, this blade's Health absorption has unlimited uses and does not require recharging.
It is highly recommended that players obtain the Ebony Blade before taking on the other Daedric Quests as a good majority of them will require you to kill a friendly character, with some requiring multiple such kills:
- Boethiah's Calling - Requires you to kill a companion, as well as the questgiver, fulfilling two killcounts.
- Ill Met by Moonlight - You will have the option of killing Sindig to acquire the Savior's Hide instead of Hircine's Ring. Note that you can obtain both by first sparing Sindig, heading outsie to obtain the purified ring and then returning to the cave to kill Sindig.
- Pieces of the Past - Killing Silus will fulfill the killcount, which is also a prerequisite to obtaining Mehrunes' Razor.
- The House of Horrors - The player will be asked to kill an NPC during the quest, fulfilling a killcount.
- The Taste of Death - Players can choose to side with Brother Verulus to kill the Coven which can fulfill up to 3 killcounts.
- Waking Nightmare - Killing Erandur will fulfill a killcount, which is also a prerequisite for obtaining the Skull of Corruption.
