Powers in Skyrim are a unique type of spell with powerful effects. Each race is granted a unique power and additional powers can be acquired during the game through various means. Vampire and Werewolf powers are additional racial powers that players can obtain, there are also others such as those granted by Standing Stones and through membership of various factions or by cleansing the All-maker Stones. Most Powers will cost no Magicka to cast but can only be used once per in-game day, lesser powers are special in that they can be used multiple times a day but are still considered powers. Powers can be found listed in the magic menu under Powers.

 

Getting Powers in Skyrim

Lesser Racial Powers and Greater Racial Powers: Players can only get the Lesser and Greater Racial Powers from the race choices they make outside of a few lesser or greater powers that can be found. The Black Books from Solstheim are one such way to unlock more Powers for the player.

Faction powers: Factions powers can be found from participating in and following the story and quests from particular Factions in the world of Skyrim.

Standing Stone Powers: Standing Stone Powers share their exclusivity with Standing Stones Abilities where only 1 Standing Stone can be activated at a time so players have to choose the power or ability they want to use from the standing stones.  There are 13 Standing Stones in Skyrim, 9 grant the player a passive Standing Stone ABILITY, and 4 provide a Standing Stone POWER which must be activated. The Aetherial Crown can give players 1 more standing stone ability or power. 

All-maker Stones Powers: The All-maker stones are found on the island of Solstheim. Players can learn and use all the powers at the same time however each All-maker Stone power can only be used once before having to revisit the stone. 

Skyrim Powers Tips

  • Racial powers are exclusive to the characters race so players may choose to look to see what Powers races provide when creating their character
  • The Orc Race Power Berserker Rage is a very powerful combat ability for any type of playstyle reducing damage received for a duration but also increasing damage output
  • Standing Stones and All-maker stones will provide fast-travel locations after finding them for players to revisit quickly
  • Powers may be limited to one use per day but players should not feel the need to save their powers as they will replenish, use them when the time calls for it

Vampire's Servant Reanimate a dead body to fight for you for 60 seconds. The strength of the body increases each day the Vampire goes without feeding, progressing from "weak", to "more powerful", to "powerful", and finally to "very powerful" after three full days of not feeding.
Beast Form Take on the Form of the Wolf.
Ring of Hircine (Power) Allows for unlimited Werewolf transformations per day; only active when you're wearing the Ring of Hircine (must be a Werewolf).

Summon Arniel's Shade (Power) Summons the Shade of Arniel Gane for 60 seconds wherever the caster is pointing.
Summon Spectral Assassin Summons the ghost of the legendary assassin Lucien Lachance to fight by your side, until he's defeated.
The Ritual Stone Raise all nearby dead enemies to fight for you.
