Heavy Armor in Skyrim refers to armor that is heavier in weight with higher base armor values. Heavy Armor provides damage reduction against physical attacks up to a maximum of 80% damage reduction. This is achieved at 567 total armor rating when using 4 pieces of armor without a shield. Heavy armor is supported by the heavy armor skill. Armor can be enchanted with magical effects and improved with Smithing.

Skyrim's Best Heavy Armor

The best Heavy Armors can be specially found or specifically crafted by players in Skyrim. The overall best sets of Heavy armor come with some difficult requirements for the player to achieve before being available. Players are recommended to find and use other sets or pieces of armor while working towards these armors. The following sets of armor are amongst the best Heavy Armors.

Ebony Armor: obtained by finding it from level 32 onwards or crafted with level 80 Smithing and the Ebony Smithing perk. The Ebony Armor set provides 96 armor for 62 weight amongst the best in the game. The Daedric Artifact Ebony Mail also counts for a matched set for matching set bonus providing the rare muffle effect and slightly increased armor value.
Stalhrim Armor: obtained on Solstheim from level 35 onwards or crafted with level 80 Smithing and the Ebony Smithing perk. The Stalhrim Armor set provides 102 armor for 59 weight and has improved resist frost enchantment effects if resist frost is enchanted on it.
Daedric Armor: rarely found at level 48 onwards or crafted with level 90 Smithing and the Daedric Smithing perk. The Daedric armor set provides more armor than the Dragonplate set, providing 108 armor for 81 weight versus the 102 that Dragonplate would provide for 64 weight. The Dragon priest masks such as Otar are Daedric artifacts and work with the Daedric Armor for counting towards the Matched set bonus.
